Bitter Melon Extract High in CLA
Today we are discussing bitter melon extract, which is high in conjugated linoleic acid or CLA. According to researchers from the Hefei University of Technology in China, mice experienced weight loss and decreased fat cell size when they were fed a high-fat diet in conjunction with oil extracted from bitter melon seeds. Bitter melon extract is high in CLA, which, researchers believe, seems to promote fat loss by speeding up metabolic rates, shrinking fat cells, and triggering the death of fat cells. However, more research is needed before we know if bitter melon and CLA in general are safe for human consumption on a long-term basis. Ohio State researchers have also discovered that CLA can cause blood vessel inflammation, fatty liver disease, and insulin resistance. CLA could be a great asset in the fight against obesity, but only if it is safe.
